JOB OPENING: GENERAL MANAGER
Role Purpose
AMDC is looking for an experienced and commercially astute General Manager to provide overall management and strategic direction across its full portfolio of businesses. The General Manager will be responsible for driving operational excellence, financial performance, and coordinated growth across the clinical, diagnostic, trade, and education verticals, ensuring each business unit works cohesively under a unified strategic direction while meeting its individual performance targets.
This is a senior leadership role requiring the ability to work across diverse business models – from regulated clinical services to commercial trade and education – while keeping the quality, compliance, and service standards that underpin AMDC’s reputation.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field; a relevant Master’s degree (e.g., MBA or MHA) is an advantage
- Minimum of 5–8 years of senior management experience, ideally with exposure tohealthcare, diagnostics, or multi-business-unit environments
- Demonstrated experience managing diverse business portfolios or multiple businessunits simultaneously
- Proven track record in P&L ownership, budgeting, and financial management
- Experience operating within regulated industries (healthcare, laboratory, or similar) is
- Highly desirable
- Experience in the Maldives or similar small-island/regional market context is an advantage
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Overall Management
Provide day-to-day leadership and overall management of all AMDC business verticals,ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives
Translate Board and CEO-level strategy into actionable operating plans across business units
Find opportunities for growth, diversification, and operational synergies across the group
Business Unit Oversight
Oversee the performance of the clinic (internal medicine, specialist consultations, dentistry, physiotherapy, radiology), the clinical laboratory, the food and water testing
lab, the medical consumables and pharmaceutical trade business, and Mālimee ThinkHub
Ensure each vertical runs efficiently, meets service and quality standards, and delivers against agreed budgets and KPIs
Support department and unit heads in resolving operational challenges and improving performance
Financial Performance
Own overall P&L responsibility across the group’s businesses
Develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and drive cost efficiency and revenue growth
Present financial and operational performance to the CEO and Board as required
Governance & Compliance
Ensure all business units and departments operate in compliance with relevant healthcare, laboratory, trade, and educational regulations in the Maldives
Ensure strong clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management practices, particularly across regulated healthcare and laboratory functions
Support Board reporting requirements through the dotted-line relationship with the Board of Directors
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary senior management team across clinical and non-clinical functions
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement across all business units
Oversee organisational structure and resourcing to support business growth
Stakeholder & Business Development
Represent AMDC in dealings with regulators, suppliers, partners, and key clients (including hotel/resort clients for testing services)
Build and maintain relationships that support business development across trade, training, and healthcare services
Identify and pursue partnership and growth opportunities, including within the hospitality and food safety sectors
